The Canada West Coast chapter kicks off its 2016/2017 speaker series with a presentation of the 2016 STC International Summit award winners, featuring the best work by technical communicators in print, web, and video from the US, Italy, and Israel.
Karen Rempel (shown left), the 2016 STC International Summit Awards Competition Judging Manager and a former chapter president, will present the entries on Saturday, September 10, starting at 10 am in the Willms Salon of the VSO School of Music in downtown Vancouver.
“I’m delighted that Karen is available to present the entries and discuss why they’re prizewinners at this first-time event for our chapter,” said Stephen Gauer, president of the chapter. “This is a great opportunity to check out the best work produced by technical communicators.”
The September event will be followed on October 15 by an in-depth look at privacy issues in the 21st century by Cindy Oxenbury, founder of Canopy Privacy, a Vancouver-based consulting firm.
On November 19th, Keith Barker, a conflict coach, mediator, and faculty member at the Justice Institute of BC, will explore the fascinating world of the Meyers-Briggs type indicator and what it tells us about how we relate to the world and each other. Attendees will have a chance to determine their own personality types by completing an online questionnaire before Keith’s session.
Looking ahead to early 2017, scheduled events include writing for mobile devices, career building with LinkedIn, and typography basics for tech writers.
Admission to the program events is free for STC chapter members, and $10 for non-members.
