STC Canada West Coast Chapter welcomes Serena Beck as the new Vice President. Prior to her new role, she was the chapter’s Membership Coordinator for two years.
“I decided I was up for a challenge and volunteered for VP,” she says. “It’s great that we have a team of valuable volunteers and an amazing current and past President to help mentor me in this role.”
Mala Rupnarain, the chapter Past President, also played a part in encouraging Serena to apply and assuring her that she could handle the challenge.
Serena brings her experience and expertise in writing for the medical device industry. In 2012, she obtained her Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC)TM certification which has helped advance her career, including a job promotion.
“STC is an amazing community resource to connect with writers and learn from other writers,” she says.
Serena will be attending her first STC Summit in Washington, DC, in May. She looks forward to networking and learning from other chapter Vice Presidents and Presidents. “I’ll have a list of questions to ask them as I gather knowledge for my new role,” she says.
Serena takes over from current President Stephen Gauer on June 1.
Amy Takeda has a Bachelor of Business degree from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and is completing the technical writing certificate program at BCIT. She plans to specialize in technical documentation for the business, technology, and industrial sectors.
Yay, congrats Madame VP @Serena Beck! I know you’ll do an outstanding job for this chapter, and build a foundation to support our many amazing writers on Vancouver Island.
