If you wonder what digital accessibility is and why you should know about it, this talk is for you.

People with disabilities are often expected to bridge a chasm between their disabilities and their need to participate in the world. Fortunately, times are changing, as governments around the world mandate accessible web content.

The World Wide Web Consortium, a diverse international web standard-setting body, developed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can use the web. These standards apply to all kinds of digital content: text, images, audio, and video. They ensure that people with low vision, colour vision deficiency, or mobility, hearing, cognitive, or neurological impairments can perceive, understand, and interact with web content.

However, applying the massive WCAG standards can be daunting. Our speaker and her team faced this challenge when they had to revise tens of thousands of web pages to comply with WCAG. Find out how they approached this task, the pitfalls and successes they met along the way, and why all of us need to make our digital offerings accessible.
