Description
This event focuses on developing careers in technical communication. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to a number of short presentations from seasoned technical communication professionals.
Each presentation will be led by a subject-matter expert and will include a short Q&A:
Eagranie Yuh: “From Manuals to Magazines.” Eagranie writes for magazines and newspapers, both print and online, under her own byline and those of her clients. Learn about the editorial process and tips for getting published.
Eric Brown: “From Tech Writing to Marcom (To Say Nothing of the Novel).” Eric is a former technical writer and manager of marketing communications, currently a freelance marketing copywriter and novelist. He has taught technical writing and marketing communications at SFU, Douglas College, and BCIT.
Moise Potie: “Working for a Niche-Market Software Company.” Moise works as a technical writer in the mining industry, at a company that produces software for open-pit mining fleets.
Pam Drucker: “From Hauling Hazardous Waste to Helping Social Workers Protect Children: Nontechnical Sectors Employ Technical Writers.” Pam is a contract technical writer. She’s written software procedure guides for business and industry in the US and Canada for 30 years.
Susan Nishi: “What’s a Procedures Analyst?” Susan works as a Procedures Analyst with ICBC’s Claims Division. She previously worked a technical writer and editor in high-tech companies, primarily in power electronics and the manufacturing sector.
