We continue our 2016-2017 speaker series on Saturday, February 11, with a presentation on preparing content for mobile delivery by Vancouver freelance technical writer Robert Desprez.
Robert’s presentation will look at current trends in mobile use and how technical writers are responding to the changing ways that users read content; different mobile output formats such as HTML5 and EPUBs; common challenges in creating mobile-friendly content; appropriate language and formatting; and common authoring tools such as Robohelp and Madcap Flare.
Robert has worked as a Vancouver technical writer for more than 15 years, including stints at Kodak, Boeing, Teck Resources, and FortisBC. He’s also worked as a writing instructor at Simon Fraser University in their Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver. In 2016, Robert wrote a series of blog posts and presentations for Adobe that examined mobile trends and how technical writers are responding.
Robert’s presentation begins at 10 am on Saturday, February 11, in the Willms Salon of the VSO School of Music, 843 Seymour Street, second floor, in downtown Vancouver. Admission is free for STC members, and $10 for non-members.
In March and April, we’ll shift gears and present two full-day, hands-on training classes – the first on March 11, and the second on April 15. We’ll provide full details about times, locations, and content a little later this month. Stay tuned!
