Off and Running is an appropriate title for my first president’s message after the hard work Aaron and the dedicated volunteer team did to re-organize the chapter structure and to execute a fantastic lineup for our professional development series. His changes streamlined our processes and established a solid foundation for the future. We can now focus on ensuring our programming and priorities continue to give value to our members and community.
Each board member now oversees a committee. This year, the division is:
Communications—Moise Potie, Secretary
Education—Mala Rupnarain, Vice-President
Executive—Autumn Jonssen, President
Mark Matsuno continues as Treasurer and Aaron Fultz is serving as immediate past president, an advisory position. Heather Sommerville and Pam Drucker, long-term STC and chapter members, are again serving as advisors to the executive. I am happy to have their knowledge and guidance.
A strategic planning session for this year’s events and priorities is scheduled for June 21, 2014. This is a great way to network, find out what’s happening this coming year and to submit your ideas for education topics and projects.
The key words for this year are Connect and Fun. Connect with each other, with the community and with our field. Since it’s important to maintain a sense of play, let’s remember to have fun! To start us off, how do we know that the Earth won’t come to an end? Because it’s round!
Finally, I plan to post president’s messages at key points throughout the year. The next message will be posted after the planning meeting and will outline the events and priorities for the coming year.
I look forward to working with everyone to make this a great year!
Of course, Aaron did do a great job and we were lucky to have him as a president.
But it is good to see you in the saddle and I think we are all in for a good ride this year. Should be fun… and you can count on us for lots of support. Cheers!
